Your Economy, Your Choice v2

With the proliferation of open-source forks and seemingly constant version iteration driving the recent defi boom and overall sector growth, we thought it only fitting to version up ourselves, YEYC v2 🤑.

OK, yes, the TEC is well beyond v2 in reality, as we prepare for our upcoming Hatch. But we couldn’t resist a natural follow-on to our original YEYC Blog post back in November 2020 — Your Economy, Your Choice. In that piece, we introduced the characteristics unique to the TEC that will enable community designed DAO initialization (the Hatch!) and subsequent Commons Upgrade to include an augmented bonding curve and a conviction voting governance system.

In this upgrade, our focus shifts to mechanisms. Anyone can talk the talk. We want to show you how to walk the walk. Explore some of TEC’s live and active tools that actually connect economy and choice by giving value-aligned community members agency in all of the initialization processes.👇

🎊 Mission, Vision, Values Run-off Voting Results

We are excited to announce the results of the Mission, Vision and Values run-off vote! As you know, the TEC bases its foundation on a community of contributors with equal voice in the development of our DAO. Contributors were first asked to submit independently-written MVV’s by April 15th. Three MVV’s received the most votes on Token Log and were selected for the anonymized run-off. The MVV run-off period ended on April 27th, and the final tally is in!

🎆 And our winner is…MVV #16!

What the heck! MVV #16? An important component of the MVV Token Log Run-off Vote was anonymous and title-less final submissions, as to avoid potential, unintended social influence.

Additionally, the MVV #16 link currently resides in an almost final draft in our Github repo. The TEC Community Stewards are polishing, and the final TEC Mission, Vision, Values will be posted very soon. We Promise ❤️

We want to thank all contributors who submitted the original MVV’s as well as all those who voted in the first and second voting rounds. To catch a glimpse into the community steward led selection and distillation process, check out this work session on constructive iteration resulting in anonymous MVV re-submissions. Thank you stewards.

📊 The TEC Hatch Config Dashboard

As we excitedly announced in our March 17th piece The Dashboard 4 DAOs, the TEC Hatch Config Dashboard will allow our community members to pick the specific parameters that will create and govern the TEC.

We have been feverishly testing and revising the Dashboard, making it more understandable and user-friendly. We very much appreciate all of the community feedback and input in the QA/QC process.

Wait no longer. This tool will help YOU configure the parameters for the Hatch of the Token Engineering Commons. Your Economy, Your Choice!

http://params.tecommons.org/hatch

Select your parameters, run them through the simulation as often as you want, and once you are happy with the results, submit your final configuration. The community will then vote on configuration submissions and use them to foster discourse in the ethical design of the TEC and other community ecosystems!

🐣 What’s in a Hatch?

The Token Engineering Commons will be the first community to apply the Commons Stack design pattern in a live deployment — what the Commons Stack refers to as a (capital C) Commons. Rather than spoil the adventure, we’ll tempt you with the ‘Hatch’ introduction:

This piece explains what is involved in a ‘Hatch’, and what initial conditions (both cultural and technical) should be in place for the launch of a resilient Commons ecosystem. These could be considered ‘warm DAOs’ — more than just financial empowerment for a community, they also form templates of online cultural practices to ensure sustainability, drawing inspiration from Ostrom’s principles for the commons.

If you’ve ever questioned “Why a Hatch, instead of a Token Generation Event or ICO” or wondered how the TEC will create a unique blend of conditions that is conducive to the long term health of the Commons ecosystem, look no further. Step inside and find out what it takes to Hatch the TE Commons 👇

🧑‍🚀 Gravity Orbit

After graduating the first class of Conflict Management Gravitons earlier this spring, the TEC Gravity Working Group has an updated manifesto and is currently in their second planning iteration. To see the shape of Gravity’s orbit, check out 👇

💎 The Praise is in! Impact Hour Leaderboard

For participation, TE Commons contributors are acknowledged via a praise bot developed by the Commons Stack and then that Praise is quantified to distribute Impact Hours. Through Telegram and Discord bots and bridges, community members dish Praise to each other to recognize work.

Impact Hours will be converted into TECH tokens at launch. The exact value of Impact Hours will depend on the parameters chosen by the community and how much is collected in the Hatch 🐣, but the intention is that each hour will be worth somewhere between $10-$200.

Congratulations on the hard work everyone and thank you for your contributions to the Token Engineering Commons! 🥳 Here is the full list of Impact Hours awarded for work from April 10–24:

Period IH

Every contribution counts, and the Token Engineering Commons is incredibly grateful for its 320+ active contributors that have earned Praise so far. 🙏 Below is a partial list of total Impact Hours to date, the full list and the math behind its calculation can be found in this spreadsheet:
